Bayern Munich demolished Schalke 04, 4-0 on Saturday to join Bundesliga leaders Borussia Dortmund at the top of the table after they drew 1-1 at Nuernberg.
Two of the Bundesliga’s biggest teams prepared for battle but this one turned into a one sided thrashing.
Bastian Schweinsteiger was back in the team and found the back of the net after 21 minutes for Bayern Munich.
And then Schalke let Mario Mandzukic do exactly the same a minute later.
Pep Guardiola’s men then completed the rout with goals from Franck Ribery and substitute Claudio Pizarro.
They are now unbeaten in 31 matches.
Dortmund struggled to a 1-1 draw at Nuernberg to end their perfect start to the season.
It was a tale of 2 freekicks, first Dortmund took the lead through Marcel Schmelzer’s beauty.
But they didn’t clear Nuernberg’s in the second half and Per Nilsson’s equalised.
Bayer Leverkusen may have been beaten by Manchester United in the Champions League but they found Mainz a much easier task. Robbie Kruse put them ahead in the 19th minute.
And after setting up Lars Bender for their second he bagged the third.
Yunus Malli pulled one back for Mainz but only after Stefan Kiessling had made it 4.
A great result for Sami Hyypia
