Video: Blatter says 2022 World Cup has to be in winter

FIFA president Sepp Blatter said on Wednesday (July 17th) he will convince FIFA’s exceutive committee to move the 2022 World Cup finals in Qatar to the Winter.

Sepp Blatter, FIFA President:

“We have had a lot of discussions about the organisation of the FIFA World Cup 2022 in Qatar concerning the principle to play the FIFA football World Cup in the summer time. That after having realised that in summer time it is so hot, that it is practically not possible, or I would say, not possible to play. And after having received a second report of our medical committee, then I have now taken the decision that I will convince FIFA’s executive committee, that the FIFA 2022 World Cup shall be played in winter.”

“Now, and this is the second remark on this today, one could have done this earlier, one surely could have done this earlier. But if we take this decision now, we will have enough time to work on the international calendar. We are now having already a fixed international calendar for the time until 2014 to 2018. And now there is time to have a look into the international calendar for the time from 2018 to 2022. And I say where there is a will, there is a way. And I do also think that the people in Qatar will say: thank you, thank you.”
