Chelsea’s good run in the domestic league was given a halt by Slovenia side as they managed to secure a 1-1 draw against Jose Mourinho’s side at home after coming off from a humiliating 6-0 defeat at the Stamford Bridge.
Following the match, Chelsea head coach was very critical of the referee for disallowing Diego Costa’s goal which was a tight decision to make for Italian referee Daniele Orsato.
“After that, a fantastic reaction. We deserved to win, clearly. We didn't reach the number of goals that we should have in the second half, but the team played well. And we scored a great second goal,” said Mourinho while referring to Costa’ s goal.
“I have a long story with this referee from my Italian times, but I don’t want to go in that direction,” he said later.
Mourinho has been sent off from his touchline twice during his tenure as Inter Milan’s manager by Orasto and the two share quite the history..
“We scored two goals, two very good goals,” he adds. “The second goal, the referee decided to disallow but it's a clear goal. Normally we should win because we scored two goals. But we have to accept it and to praise a fantastic stadium with lots of enthusiasm.”
“For the people, it was a fantastic night, and Maribor gave everything. They fought. They had a fantastic goalkeeper. And the referee's team didn't have a good night.”
