Chelsea chose to rest some of their top players in the first half of a friendly on Saturday night (10th August) in Washington D.C. against Roma, and trailed 1-0 heading into the break. But the fresh legs of Frank Lampard, Eden Hazard and Demba Ba, all second-half substitutions, proved the difference in a 2-1 win.
Gary Cahill, Chelsea defender:“Obviously we’ve been together for a couple of weeks, we’ve trained hard. You know, we’ve prepared well for what’s going to be a tough season. I think we’re ready now. (We’ll) go back for a few more days training before we start the season. (Then there’s) the international break… but no, I think we’re ready and we look fresh.”
Frank Lampard, Chelsea midfielder:“I feel good. I think we’ve had a good strong pre-season – lots of games, lots of training, the team’s all together. I think we’re ready – we will be ready next week.”
Andre Schurrle, Chelsea forward:“Of course, it’s important to play because there you get your fitness, you get comfortable with the pitch and with the players. So, I think we’ve played four matches, we played well four matches. I think against Real Madrid it was difficult, but it was OK. So now we’re looking forward to the next week.”
