West Brom got off to a rocky start against Manchester City at the Eithad Stadium as they were reduced to 10 men within the first 2 minutes as Gareth McAuley was given his marching orders by referee Neil Swarbrick.
However, the point of debate was about the identity of the offender, not the decision by the referee.
Swarbrick blew the whistle after Craig Dawson brought down Wilfried Bony, who was through on goal, after McAuley’s poor back pass. However, to the shock of everyone at the stadium and the millions watching on TV, the referee showed the card to McAuley!
West Brom went on to lose the match 0-3 through goals by Bony, Fernando and David Silva.
