Cristiano Ronaldo was given a straight red card for kicking and hitting Cordoba defender Edimar Fraga in the 82nd minute of the match. The Portuguese star kicked Fraga after he was pulled by the defender near the goal post.
Ronaldo was instantly confronted by Cordoba players Jose Crespo, Deivid, Juan Carlos, at which point Ronaldo punched Deivid and pushed him aside. The rushing referee gave a straight red card to the 2015 Ballon d'Or winner.
Real Madrid went on to win the match later, as Gareth Bale’s penalty saved Los Blancos from a defeat at Estadio Nuevo Arcangel. Just before the red card incident, the Portugal international was also caught in a scuffle and was warned by the referee.
Bale’s free kick at the 87th minute hit the hands of Cartabia inside the penalty box and the Cordoba player was also given a red card (second yellow card). Madrid was awarded the penalty, which Bale took to give his side the lead.
