Watch out, La Liga; there’s a new talent coming through the Barcelona ranks and his name is Alen Halilovic. Dubbed the ‘Croatian Messi’, the 18-year-old is a prodigious talent who is setting the Segunda Division alight with some eye-catching performances.
On Sunday, the Barcelona B playmaker scored a fantastic solo goal against Girona in a match the Catalan youth team won 1-0. Receiving the ball in hos own half, Halilovic made a run through the midfield, sidestepped a defender, went past a failed tackle and took a shot from outside the box into the top corner.
His ability to carry the ball forward and find space was incredible, coupled with a ferocious finish that left the goalkeeper stranded on his line, unable to react in time to even attempt a save.
It wasn’t a game Barcelona B dominated and Girona were the ones who actually had more possession. But Barca’s goalkeeper Adrian Ortola made a number of crucial saves to prevent Girona from scoring.
But Halilovic’s counter-attacking goal helped Barcelona B win 1-0.
