It seems Barcelona’s impressive 2-1 win against Manchester City, which moved the Catalan club closer to qualifying for the next round of the Champions league, was not enough to appease every Barcelona player. Especially not defender Dani Alves, who took out his frustration on a bottle after being subbed during the match.
Alves was taken off by coach Luis Enrique shortly after he was on the receiving end of a tackle by City defender Gael Clichy, which handed the former Arsenal man a second yellow of the match and a sending off. While it was not clear if the reason behind Alves’ substitution was an injury or a tactical switch, he was certainly left furious by the decision.
The Brazilian decided to let his feelings be known before walking down the tunnel with a stern right foot through a water-bottle, which shattered on impact and the follow-through caused his foot to hit the metal rails. The impact even caused the policemen and stewards to take evasive action.
Alves’ actions with his team being 2-1 up and the opponents down to 10 men makes little sense.
