Video: David Moyes - Manchester United is a "massive challenge”

Manchester United boss David Moyes believes that he can turn the club’s fortunes around, firmly rejecting suggestions that the club is in crisis. He admitted in his post match interview that he is facing a difficult challenge but insisted that he has full confidence in his ability to turn things around. The former Everton boss spoke of his job as a “project” and preferred to concentrate on the positive aspects of his side’s performance in their 3-1 defeat to Chelsea at Stamford Bridge on Sunday.

When asked how his personal confidence was holding up in light of the difficult start to his career at Old Trafford, Moyes replied:

“Fine, it’s a difficult task, but perseverance [is important]. [I will] keep doing what’s right.”

“I thought we did a lot of good things today. We’ve got players to come back and this is a project that I know I’m going to improve as it goes on.”

There will be changes as we go on in the journey and I’m looking forward to it.”

However he admitted that he faces a challenge at the club and ceded that he had hoped that his side would be higher up the league than they currently are.

“It’s a massive challenge”, he said. “Of course I hoped I’d be in a far better position than I am, but I’m not”.

“So the challenge is there for me and I think if you’re a football person it’s a great one to have, I really do. I’m really looking forward to it, because I know it’s up that we’re going to go.”

He flatly rejected suggestions that some would call his side’s poor run a crisis, although he admitted that the club’s stature demands better performances.

“It’s not the performance that is expected. [Crisis?] No that’s your word not my word.”
