Video: Debate continues over possible winter World Cup in Qatar

Secretary General Hassan al Thawadi said in Brazil on Tuesday (18th June) that the Qatar 2022 Supreme Committee would be willing to host the 2022 FIFA World Cup at “whatever time” – as the debate regarding the scheduling for the global event rumbles on.

At The Business of Football Summit in Rio de Janeiro on Tuesday the Secretary General for the Qatar 2022 Supreme Committee said the country was ready to host a winter world cup.

Hassan al Thawadi, Secretary General for the Qatar 2022 Supreme Committee:

“It is the significant voices in the footballing community who are saying that are saying that winter would be perfect and it is obviously a debate that is out there in the footballing community. We have always said we are ready to host it at whatever time – but we need to have that debate with the football community to see when is the best time.”

Many European clubs, meanwhile, have been opposed to a winter World Cup due to scheduling conflicts.
