Didier Drogba is Ivory Coast’s all-time leading goal-scorer with 65 goals and despite retiring from international duty at the start of the current season, the Chelsea striker was supporting his country from home in their quest of winning the African Cup of Nations.
Drogba uploaded a video on his Instagram account of him watching the match with his family and the euphoria after goalkeeper Boubacar Barry scored from the penalty spot in an extraordinary penalty shootout that ended 9-8 in Ivory Coast’s favour. The match ended goalless after 120 minutes, but there was no shortage of drama in the shootout as there were 22 penalty kicks with each player taking one before The Elephants prevailed over Ghana.
Drogba was ecstatic after his former team were declared African Champions after 23 years.
The 36-year-old represented Ivory Coast 4 times at the African Cup of Nations, but failed to win the trophy a single time.
