Bidding to win the UEFA Super Cup for the first time at the fourth attempt, Bayern Munich trained at Prague’s Eden Stadium on Thursday before facing Chelsea on Friday.
Pep Guardiola, Bayern Munich coach:“Chelsea has a super trainer… and Bayern too. I am happy to be here and I think, I don’t know if it’s true, but I think Mourinho’s happy to be there. I feel I am a young trainer, just 42 years old and just four years as a trainer in a professional world. And before my career is finished I would like to go to England to train there… but in a few years.”
Philipp Lahm, Bayern Munich (On club focussing more on Super Cup than Freiburg match):“I don’t think that’s the picture we were trying to establish, that was not the message that was going out. We tried to win that match and we lost two points drawing with Freiburg. Of course, some players didn’t play but we do have a very large pool of players, and given that it is a very long season, a very intense match schedule we need every player. Of course it’s very important, as we have always said, Bayern Munich hasn’t won this cup ever – and this an additional motivation that we as a team want to win it for Munich. It wasn’t the case that we’re trying to send out the message that the match against Freiburg was less important than the Super Cup.”
