Dutch coach Guus Hiddink left his post at the helm of Russia’s Anzhi Makhachkala on Monday, just a month after signing a contract extension.
Guus Hiddink has left Russian side Anzhi as rumours spread he is about to become the new manaer of Barcelona after Tito Vilanova stepped down last week to continue treatment for throat cancer.
Hiddink has managed the likes of PSV Eindhoven and Real Madrid, and has been caretaker coach at Chelsea.
The 66-year-old also earned praise when he coached the national sides of the Netherlands, South Korea, Russia and Turkey.
Hiddink has quit his position just two games into the current Russian Premier League season, following a defeat against Dynamo Moscow.
Former Manchester United coach Rene Meulensteen has been named as Hiddink’s replacement.
