Newcastle’s Massadio Haidara who came on as a substitute against Wigan Athletic in the first half replacing the injured Mathieu Debuchy was in for a rude shock as he was tackled horrendously by Wigan’s Callum McManaman and had to be stretchered off barely a few minutes after coming on. In what was a potentially career threatening injury, McManaman went studs up and brought them down on Haidara’s knee. And amazingly enough, McManaman was wasn’t shown a card and a free-kick wasn’t awarded to Newcastle either as referee Mark Halsey wasn’t unable to spot the foul on the 20-year old Frenchman. Wigan Athletic won the contest 2-1 via goals from Jean Beausejour and Arouna Kone.
