Few would argue with the fact that Manuel Neuer is the best goalkeeper in the world at this point in time. But football, at the end of the day, is played by humans and even the best are susceptible to a few horrid moments of embarrassment.
The World Cup winner endured his moment in the ‘hall of shame’ against Borussia Monchengladbach yesterday and no, it didn’t come from one of his trademark charges outside the penalty box. Neuer was only required to collect a relatively weak effort on goal from Borussia’s Raffael.
The shot was hit straight at the German international but what was supposed to be a routine save for a Sunday League goalkeeper turned out to be a nightmare for the World Cup winner. Neuer fumbled the straightforward collection and lent the ball a friendly hand into the goal. He was also a little at fault for the second goal.
Bayern Munich lost the match 2-0 in what was their first loss in 10 matches.
