Real Madrid are openly in the marker for a world-class goalkeeper, and this particular video shows why they are so actively pursuing the purchase of a goalkeeper. In a youth team match between Real and Sevilla, the custodian for the Madrid side made an incredible howler straight from kick-off, leading to Sevilla's goal.
The incident saw the ball passed back to the goalkeeper, who then allowed the ball to roll to try and fool the striker and so delayed his clearance. In the process, the ball had moved very close to the goal and when the young goalkeeper tried to clear the danger, he got his feet all mixed up and missed his kick, thus conceding a very embarrassing goal. To add insult to injury, this happened immediately after kick-off, just 21 seconds into the match.
The whole sequence of events seemed to have shocked the young custodian deeply, as he apologised to his teammates, who were all very understanding, and consoled him, instead asking him to focus on the remainder of the match. Although the goalkeeper was at fault for the goal, one possible reason for it apart from the lapse in concentration could be the fact that the sun was right in his face, and he could probably have lost the ball in it.
Los Blancos’ open pursuit of Manchester United's David de Gea in the summer transfer window reached a peak towards the closing stages of the window, as conflicting reports emerged from both clubs, blaming each other for the transfer not going through. The two clubs had earlier come close to agreeing a deal for the sale of David de Gea to Real, with a player plus cash deal proposed, with Keylor Navas going to United, in addition to a fee of £29.3m.
Following the sale of former club captain and youth player Iker Casillas, Real Madrid are definitely still looking to add a world-class goalkeeper, and we hope this mistake from the youth goalkeeper here doesn't derail what could be a promising career.
