Venezuela and Club Tijuana star Juan Arango was caught by videos biting the shoulder of opponent Jesus Zavela in the tense closing stages of a 3-4 defeat to Monterrey in a match in the Mexican League this week – conjuring up memories of the infamous Luis Suarez incidents.
Arango, who scored a goal earlier in the match, was not booked by the referee but could face a heavy retrospective ban – as suggested by the way Uruguayan Luis Suarez’s biting incidents were dealt with by FIFA. His most recent bite on Giergio Chiellini in the World Cup was punished with a four-month ban, a period during which he was disallowed from even training with his teammates.
The 34-year-old Arango has 121 international caps for Venezuela, and has spent five seasons each at Real Mallorca in Spain and Borussia Monchengladbach in Germany.
