Juan Mata has shown superb calibre taking freekicks in the Premier League, the Spaniard is among the most distinguished free kick takers in the world. Recently the 27-year-old proved his prowess, by uploading a video on his youtube channel that saw him take free kicks blindfolded.
The United midfielder placed practice dummies right at the edge of the penalty box as a wall and took his shots at goal from almost 25 yards away. His challenge was to score a goal from four attempts but he did better than expected when he sunk all four into the back of the net.
Well maybe scoring from his the first attempt was beginners luck, but when he managed to recreate the goals in all four attempts it was definitely proved that he had skills. In all four attempts he placed the ball perfectly took a few steps back and smashed it into the back of the net.
While Mata has one of the highest conversion stats in the Premier League he has not been seen much behind the ball in recent times, as the team have placed their trust in Dutch winger Memphis Depay. The choice of putting faith in the youngster is understandable as he managed to score seven goals from thirty attempts last season, making him the best in Europe.
Maybe it’s time Louis van Gaal placed trust in Mata rather than Depay, as the former Chelsea player of the year definitely seems to be more accurate when he can’t see.
At the end of the video after successfully completing the task he challenged the fans who were viewing the video to come up with a more difficult task for him to complete if they felt his current task was too easy.
Here’s the video:
