Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has mastered many challenges over the years. But there is still one challenge that is still proving tough to conquer for the German coach – mastering Scouse slang.
In an exclusive interview with Kop Kid Issac in his office at Melwood, Klopp spoke about his first weeks as the Reds manager and how he was enjoying life in the city. The former Borussia Dortmund manager then bravely volunteered to be interrogated by a 9-year-old boy and was promptly grilled on his knowledge of the Merseyside dialect.
Learning Scouse is probably as hard for the German as Japanese would be, but he is given a good lesson by the cheeky chap. Without having any idea what they meant, the 48-year-old was asked to pronounce four phrases – “Mi head’s chocca”, “Giving it bifters”, “Gorra Cob On” and “Boss Tha”.
Hats off to the charismatic manager, who must have earned a few brownie points from the Kop faithful for his efforts. However, some of the Merseysiders might have been underwhelmed with his view on the phrase “Gorra Cob On” which sounded like the ‘name of a snake’ to him.
Anyway, this too shall pass, and the Anfield faithful will be delighted to know that he named the Beatles as the greatest band of all time. Smart move and well played Mr. Klopp!
And lastly, it there is any doubt that the German coach is the ‘Nicest Man’ in the Premier League, his heartwarming hug with the young kid at the start of the interview and promise that he will see him again in six years ‘to sign a contract’ should banish them.
