During Manchester United’s FA Cup tie with Sheffield United, one of the fans dozed off, perhaps due to the ‘boring’ approach from the home side. One of the spectators present in the stadium captured the video of the poor Manchester United fan, whose boredom took him beyond the chants and the game that was unfolding before him, to a world of dreams.
Manchester United did manage to win the game against the Blades, who play in the League one and are 48 rungs lower in the English football ladder. The victory came in the form of a 90-minute penalty which Rooney converted in order to give United the much-needed win.
Despite the win, the fans at Old Trafford were far from excited. As the usual chants of “attack, attack, attack!” reverberated around Old Trafford, United possessed the ball but failed to provide entertainment. That free, fluid, attacking football that United is synonymous with was nowhere to be found. Indeed, Manchester United is now known to be a boring team that does not dare to penetrate the opposition’s defence.
Paul Scholes was among those to vent out their disappointment and the former United midfielder has also criticised Van Gaal time and again for his approach to the game. Scholes, who was part of the team that was led by the legendary Sir Alex Ferguson and hails from an era when United were considered as a team which never gives up. A team that always somehow managed a comeback and was never afraid to play on the front-foot.
United currently sit fifth in the Premier League and in their last 10 home games they have failed to score in the first half. Impatience is something that the fans suffer from at Old Trafford these days. The United players exchanged 672 passes among themselves. But alas! To no avail.
