Bayern Munich’s goalkeeper Manuel Neuer was back doing what he does best, as he came out 35 yards to try and stop a very quick counter from their friendly opponents Al-Hilal.
The German number one came sprinting off his line, to make a sliding tackle on the Al-Hilal player, a long distance away from the goal. Following the tackle, Neuer stayed with the play and made a second tackle, which pushed the ball away further, giving the recovering Bayern defenders enough time to get back to the goal. The loose ball fell to another onrushing Al-Hilal player, but his shot from distance went wide of the mark.
The maverick shot-stopper, who has revolutionised the term “sweeper keeper” with his style over the course of the last year, clearly wasn’t ready to take it easy even in a winter-friendly being played in Qatar, that the Pep Guardiola managed side won 4-1 and showed exactly why he is considered to be the best goalkeeper in the world.
Neuer, who finished third in the Ballon d’Or voting, has shown that he isn’t afraid to come out of the penalty box and make proper tackles that prevent the opposition from scoring which was seen during the World Cup during Germany’s round of 16 clash against Algeria.
