We have seen a number of goals scored from behind or around the half-line, but this one from Marcel Ndjeng of Paderborn against Bolton Wanderers is right up there with the very best. The 33-year-old midfielder scored a goal that could easily be nominated for the Puskas award for Goal of the Year.
In a pre-season friendly that saw the second division German club take on Bolton at at Franz Fekete Stadion, Ndjeng impressed everyone on the field with a sublime volley from 40 yards out. Paderborn had only just signed the midfielder on a free transfer and it looks like they have got more than they bargained for.
With Paderborn leading 2-1, Ndjeng latched on to a loose header near the centre circle and fired a shot that sailed over everyone, including the goalkeeper. Even the unsuspecting referee who had to take evasive action, not expecting a player to shoot from so far out.
Paderborn eventually won the match 4-1.
