The international break got a spark of club rivalry when Manchester United’s Marouane Fellaini clattered Liverpool’s Joe Allen with a vicious elbow during a Group B Euro 2016 match between Belgium and Wales. The incident occured in the second of the 0-0 draw.
While vying for the ball the 6ft 4in Belgian raised his elbow and the 5ft 6in Welsh was at the receiving end of it. Interestingly, the referee didn’t whistle for a foul let alone brandish a yellow card. Allen had to leave the field with a bloody nose which was duly patched up by the physios minutes later. This is not the first incident involving the former Everton midfielder and his elbow.
The result leaves Belgium at the 5th spot on the table keeping Wales at 2nd in the six-team group. Israel are at the top just a point ahead of the Welsh thanks to a 3-0 win against Bosnia-Herzegovina.
