Video: Martino looks ahead to Sevilla match

Barcelona manager Gerardo Martino spoke on Friday (13th September) ahead of their Spanish La Liga match against Sevilla at the Nou Camp on Saturday (14th September).

Gerardo Martino, Barcelona manager, said: “The players have returned from playing with their national teams. They’ve all come back in good shape. We haven’t had any problems, so we’ve had enough time to prepare for tomorrow’s game. I want us to repeat the way we played during the first half against Valencia because that was the best we’ve played since the beginning of the league.”

(About Gerard Pique saying Barça was a slave to tiki-taka style) Gerardo Martino said: “I think Pique is delighted to play our style of football. Other teams get to know the way Barcelona play and try different ways to inflict damage on us, to try to stop Barcelona being effective, Barcelona must have the alternatives to change the game so we can surprise our opponents.”

“I have been a national team coach and it is difficult to ask a player or his team manager not to play in the next game. If this happens it will surely be beneficial because Leo Messi will not face that many long trips. But under no circumstances will I do anything to avoid that, because I like the fact that players play for their national teams.”
