‘A fish in water is as comfortable as Lionel Messi on a football field’ or ‘Lionel Messi on a football field is as comfortable as a fish in water.’ Whichever way you might want to look at it, both statements are equally true.

However, the analogy might not be so true for Messi junior. Well not just yet anyway.

Barcelona’s match against Rayo Vallecano on Sunday was a family affair at the Camp Nou with most Barca players’ significant other present for the match along with the children. Attending the match with Shakira and Milan Pique were Messi’s girlfriend Antonella Roccuzzo and son Thiago.

Prior to the match, Messi brought Thiago on the pitch for a team photo with children of the other Barca players. Little Thiago, however, didn’t share his dad’s enthusiasm to be on the field and broke out in tears after being taken from Antonella.

Full points for persistence though as the 2-year-old continued to cry his eyes out until he wanted to return to ‘mummy’.

Hopefully, daddy’s record breaking hat-trick on the day changes things and convinces little Thiago that being on a football field can be as fun as mummy’s lap. We will keep our fingers crossed.
