Manchester United trained and talked to the media on Monday, before starting their 2013-14 UEFA Champions League campaign with a Group A clash against Bayer Leverkusen at Old Trafford on Tuesday.
(Q: Are you looking forward to pitting yourself against the top sides in Europe?) David Moyes, Manchester United manager, said: “I’ve been in the Premier League for a long time now, 15 years whatever it may be, round the leagues, been managing. I’ve always wanted to get to the Champions League. I’ve done everything I possibly can at Everton to try and make that happen. I’ve got another route into it just now with Manchester United. I’m going going to everything I possibly can now to win it, that’s the key.”
(Q: Do you think you have a hard group?) David Moyes said: “I think the Champions League has become different now. I think we always could pick out the winning teams in it. I think the last year or two is beginning to prove much more difficult. You can see by some of the results in the group stages, it’s a little bit more unpredictable than it’s been in the past. So I think it’s a tough group. We’ve got a leading team from Germany, a leading team from Spain, we have to go to Donetsk to play Shakhtar, who are pretty well experienced in the Champions League. So, I see it as a pretty tough looking group.”
(Q: Have you told Ashley Young to stop diving?) David Moyes, said: “Well, I can never be sure it won’t happen again, but I had a word with him (Ashley Young) privately. I said after the game. I’ve said for many year….I think it’s something that we should have retrospective video for diving, that would help referees no end.”
(Q: Do you feel the team has a more organised and tighter approach this season?) Rio Ferdinand said:“I think this season we’ve started off in that vein, maybe a little bit more secure in the way we’ve played, but still trying to remain an attacking force as well. I think that’s the sign of a good team, a team that can adapt.”
