Post-match reaction after two goals apiece from Robin van Persie and Danny Welbeck ensured David Moyes made a winning start to his reign as Manchester United manager as the defending English Premier League champions won 4-1 away to Swansea City on the first day of the new season on Saturday (17th August).
Manchester United manager David Moyes“I thought we were incisive. Our finishing was fantastic. I thought we could play better at times. I thought we defended well when we needed to today. But overall I was really pleased with the team performance. It was a brilliant performance against a Swansea team who I believe will do really well this season with the team they’ve got. This will be a hard place for any team to come and get a result. So to come here and win 4-1 was an impressive result.”
Manchester United manager David Moyes (about Wayne Rooney)“Well I think he helped the team today. I thought the supporters recognised good players. I think they do that at Manchester United and I think they recognised that when Wayne came on. He’s a good player and he showed it with some of the actions he showed in the game.”
Swansea City manager Michael Laudrup“When you see the result you say ‘a huge difference’ but if you see the game the difference for me, once again, was in the finishing. And, of course, the big players play in the big teams. That’s why there is a big difference sometimes because they just need a couple of chances, they score. See the two goals from (Robin) van Persie there – absolutely world class. I think it already happened to us last season when we played Tottenham here. We were in the game, we dominated and then suddenly two times Gareth Bale and we were two-nil down.”
