Reaction after the USA beat Costa Rica 1-0 in the CONCACAF Golf Cup on Tuesday (July 17th) – the ‘Stars and Stripes” eighth consecutive victory.
Juergen Klinsmann:
“Well I think we saw an entertaining game. A game where we pushed towards the end in order to win it. And the team really deserves a huge compliment because we could have taken it easy and said, ‘you know what, we are first anyway in the group and a tie is fine.’ But a tie is not fine with us. So the team pushed it, they grinded until the last minute and they deserved that goal – a beautiful combination there. So obviously I’m happy; first place, nine points and you can see that there’s a chemistry developing that is fun to watch.”
Brek Shea:
“I think the team did well. A lot of good moments throughout the game. I think Costa Rica did well. They kind of sat back. We did a lot of things right, I think they kind of broke them down and by the time I got in, I just had an opening and good thing I took advantage of my chance.”
“I think for any national team in the world to win eight straight games is pretty impressive regardless of the opposition. And to do it against – in some qualifiers – to do it against Germany and then a few games in Gold Cup is pretty special and I’m glad to be a part of it.”
