The most popular sports video game is back for yet another edition, and EA has not disappointed. FIFA 17 is fast paced, exciting, realistic, and has some newly added features which ensure that the game is a must have!
Like all editions of FIFA, certain improvements/enhancements have been made in the gameplay, and here we look at the top 5 differences between FIFA 17 and FIFA 16.
#1 Free Kicks
Free kicks in FIFA have always been useful. Each version of the game had its own techniques to score, and getting free kicks in some positions meant that a goal was more or less guaranteed. FIFA 16 had a pretty good array of free kicks, but FIFA 17 takes this to a whole new level.
FIFA 16 did not have much variety, and only the power of the shot could be manipulated by the user. Although there were a few different varieties of free kicks available, FIFA 17 is in a different league altogether.
The newer game provides a variety of different options, including the approach to the ball, the angle of the strike, the length of the run-up, as well as the precision of power. Roberto Carlos’ famous free kick for Brazil against France can be recreated with an amazing resemblance to the original masterpiece.
A number of different techniques such as Driven free kicks, Knuckleballs, and Rabonas are enabled, and hence the door to scoring great goals has opened a little wider. You can learn all these techniques in the video!
#2 Penalties
Penalties have seen a much needed major revamp in FIFA 17, with the previous few editions of FIFA having the monotonous and ridiculously easy method of timing the shot with the respective power bar. FIFA 16 had you time your shot with the power bar at green, and this would determine the accuracy of your penalty. But this has been completely removed in FIFA 17.
In FIFA 17 however, there is a much wider range of penalties that one can have in their armoury, with the approach to the shot, the power concentration, and the angle of the run up all being key facets to scoring a penalty. Saving penalties have also become more exciting and less routine, and while it takes time to get used to, the new penalty engine definitely adds panache to the otherwise boring routine of penalties.
In the video, you can learn how to take different types of penalties, and master them all!
#3 Corners
Corners pose dangerous threats to the defending team, and each team has their own special routine on corners. FIFA 17 has seen an upgrade over previous games in this facet of the game, and the whole corner set up has changed.
It is a much more challenging task with more player control required, but it offers way more variety and unpredictability in the box. Defending corners also offer a variety of challenges, and a lot more options, such as blocking runs, timing jumps to win headers, and quick player changes to react to ricochets.
FIFA 16 did not give you the opportunity to move the attacker around and the flight and velocity of your cross could not be as easily controlled as in FIFA 17. FIFA 16 also did not have the destination star which helps you decide where you want to land the corner. FIFA 17 incorporates all these improvements.
One major improvement in the corner routine is greater player control of the accuracy of balls crossed into the box. If corners are utilised properly, they can prove to be a major weapon to score goals, and you can learn about all about the different types of corner routines in the video above.
#4 Celebrations
Amazing celebrations have been added in FIFA 17, and as everybody who plays FIFA knows, celebrations play a big part in the game. After scoring a last minute winner, what better than to show off your emotions via a crazy celebration which is sure to put off your rival?
The different celebrations which have been added are
#1 Dab
#2 Rugby
#3 Baby Girl
#4 Big Man
#5 Hotline Bling
#5 Push it Down
#6 Floor Spin
#7 Triangle
#8 Predator
#9 Motorbike
#10 Ad Board Climb
#11 Manager Celebrations

#5 Journey
While FIFA 16’s career mode was good, it was extremely monotonous and did not contain 17’s Story Mode. Everyone has heard of Alex Hunter, and FIFA 17 makes career mode much more realistic with other aspects of real life captured along with the young player’s development on the football pitch.
The story mode is enticing, exciting, and really innovative, not to mention extremely fun to play. The originality in the story line is to be commended, and if ever one wants to play FIFA but take a break from Seasons and FUT for a while, the Journey is definitely one worth taking.
The new Frostbite engine takes the game to a whole new level and innovations like these are the reason the FIFA franchise is so highly valued.
A few glimpses of what to expect are shown in the video above.
