Following Manchester United’s 1-0 win over Real Sociedad in the Champions League last night, Rooney was inevitably asked about Sir Alex Ferguson’s auto biography and the former manager’s comments about the his transfer requests. Watch his reaction here:
Sir Alex Ferguson in his book revealed that the England striker has never put in a written transfer request during his time at the helm, but admitted that Rooney had verbally asked to leave Old Trafford. This was precisely Ferguson’s quote:
“This is the nub of it: in the regulations, in your contract, if you write a letter and ask away or say you have asked away, you lose all your signing-on fees. He has never admitted that and never put in a written transfer request, which is what he has been sore at.”
My memory is he asked away because, he said, he was not going to play in his proper position. I can understand that. That’s not a problem with me. I can only go on evidence on the football field. He wasn’t playing well enough.
“Now, we see Wayne Rooney. That’s the one I love seeing and I am enjoying him getting back to that form. In that form, United will win most of their games.”
It looks like Wayne Rooney was not particularly happy about his playing time after the arrival of a certain Dutch striker, but we did see a dip in his form in the recent past.
