England arrive in Kiev ahead of their crucial World Cup qualifier against Ukraine on Tuesday.
Roy Hodgson, England manager, said: “It’s two teams who are in form. It’s two good teams in the group. Two teams, both of which are capable of winning the group so basically it is a bit of a cup final in that respect and when you play in a cup final you have got to play well enough to win the game. And you don’t necessarily win games by, as you rightly say, being cautious and hoping you don’t concede. Sometimes you win it without getting onto the front foot and trying to make sure you score more goals than the opposition. So we are aware of those things we don’t have any qualms about the task ahead of us and what we need to do we are fully aware of what we need to do to get a result. And the players I know are confident that they can produce that performance.”
Hodgson confirmed that Frank Lampard will win his 100th cap against Ukraine: “I am very proud that (three players have won 100 caps) or happy to have been a part of that. All things being equal Frank (Lampard) will start the game tomorrow and will win his 100th cap.”
Steven Gerrard, England Captain, said: “Obviously me and Ashley (Cole) did that (earn 100 caps) recently as well. And we are going to move onto the same number as the legend that is Billy Wright. It is going to be a special occasion all round really but we all want to remember it for the right result really. I lost on my 100 caps (game) so hopefully it will be different for Frank (Lampard) and we can go away with fond memories.”
