New Liverpool signings Simon Mignolet and Kolo Toure were unveiled by the club on Wednesday.
Simon Mignolet, Liverpool goalkeeper (on whether manager Brendan Rogers wants Mignolet or Pepe Reina to start):“Competition is going to be in every single club. I had competition back in Belgium with the local team, I had big competition at Sunderland where there was Craig Gordon, Keiren Westwood and a lot of other international goalies and I had big competition with the Belgium national team. So that’s not going to change, and everywhere you go, especially when you go to a bigger club, there’s always going to be a fight for places. Definitely when you’re a goalie, ’cause there’s only one goalie who can play.”
Kolo Toure, Liverpool defender (on how Liverpool signed him to replace club great Jamie Carragher):“I know that Jamie Carragher is a really important player for this football club, and…. he retired now and I think Liverpool had to look for somebody who can replace him and I am the one. It’s a big honour first because to be chosen to replace Jamie Carragher is unbelievable because I think he’s been a fantastic player for England and for this football club as well. He’s a great leader, and that’s) what I’ll try to do.”
(on Liverpool’s aim of getting back into the Champions League):“That’s what I’m looking for, because the club wants to get back to the top four and want to win trophies and to be part of a team who can come back on the top four, you know. It’s going to be amazing. I’d like to be remembered like somebody who did very well and that’s why I’m here.”
