Resultantly, the Metro have suggested that the sharpness of the World Cup winning goalkeeper may have diminished and it would be reasonable to observe that Casillas’ hold over the Spanish no.1 jersey may have loosened due to his situation at Real Madrid.
Since Jose Mourinho dropped Casillas in favour of Diego Lopez, the Spaniard has existed as Real Madrid’s second-choice keeper behind Diego Lopez, a theme which continued even after Carlo Ancelotti took over at the Bernabeu.
Casillas’ has consequently appeared only in cup ties so far this season, though has managed to keep an impressive clean sheet record that has seen Real Madrid make their the way to the upcoming final without conceding a single goal.
Nonetheless, the lack of league playing-time does not bode well for Casillas ahead of this summer’s World Cup. In spite of the fact that the Real Madrid star has remained Spain’s first-choice goalkeeper, even after having been dropped, Casillas faces competition from two top-level shot-stoppers in Jose Reina and Victor Valdes.
