The beautiful game never ceases to captivate the imagination of millions of fans across the globe. The attention and passion it garners is second to none in the world of sports.
It is no secret that the myriad of breathtaking goals are undoubtedly the spectacles that bewitch football lovers. There is almost nothing quite as magical as the mind-boggling goals we have been fortunate to witness over the years.
However, we have also seen strikes that that would have left us scratching our heads in confusion or rubbing our eyes in disbelief.
In one such instance, striker Herman Kore scored one of the most bizarre goals ever witnessed for US Concarneau against Voltigeurs de Chateaubriand in a Coupe de France encounter on Sunday.
Manchester United legend George Best used to dream about “taking the ball round the keeper, stopping it on the line and then getting on my hands and knees and heading it into the net.”
Kore has now lived out this fantasy in emphatic fashion as he scored exactly how George Best had imagined in the dying seconds of the game.
Breaking after a failed corner attempt from the opponents, Kone sped through on goal unchallenged as Voltigeurs had committed all their players including their goalkeeper in search of a goal. He cleverly rounded off the opposition keeper and reached the goal-line along with the ball.
And just when everyone anticipated Kore to tap the ball into the empty net, he did something astonishing and incredibly cheeky. He stopped the ball at the goal-line, dropped on his hands and knees and ushered the ball into the net with his head much to the delight of the fans.
However, this sparked a melee as the Voltiguers players were not at all amused with Kore antics which they deemed as provocative and unsporting. The match officials had to intervene to break off the scuffles. Gregory Douard of Voltiguers was shown a red card for his reaction on the incident as Kore had to be protected by his teammates.
But by the looks of it, Kore never seemed to care about the protests as he was visibly delighted with his effort.
Meanwhile, his own team-mate, goalkeeper Ivan Seznec, admitted, “it’s sad to end on a note like this.”âÂ?Â?
