Teenager Robbie Muirhead suddenly finds himself vying for UEFA's Goal of the Season alongside Lionel Messi, Cristiano Ronaldo, Neymar and Aaron Ramsey. The 19-year-old scored a belter during Scotland's U-19 match against Norway which got nominated for last season’s goal of the season award.
The youngster who plays for Dundee United scored the 40-yard long range strike during his team's 1-1 draw against Norway during the European Championship Elite Round.
The teenager has made it into an elite list which boasts the likes of Messi, Ronaldo and Neymar who are the best footballers in the world. It’s no mean feat for a teenager plying his trade in the Scottish league to be shortlisted alongside the best in the world.
The goal of the season shortlist has been compiled by the football committee of UEFA and the technical observers of the European football’s governing body. The winner will be decided by a public vote and is part of UEFA’s 60-year anniversary celebration.
The voting for the best goal is open till August 25 and the winner will be announced on August 27 as part of the draw of the Champions League group stage which is going to be held in Monaco.
