Barcelona opened their season with a 1-0 victory over Recreativo with Luis Enrique taking control of the team for the first time while their latest new signings Marc-André ter Stegen and Alen Halilovi? made their debut as well.
Stegen didn’t have a lot to do on the pitch, apart for a few occasions when he was called upon, and he did well. Following the victory, the goalkeeper said, "It was nice to play. I like the way Barcelona play, and hope it stays like that in the future. We played well, and I didn’t feel nervous.”
The 22-year-old had moved to the Catalan club for €12 million in 2014 as a replacement for outgoing Victor Valdes whose contract with the club had expired.
“This game for me was more about passing the ball than stopping it, but that’s important for the game and I think we did a good job. It was the first match. It was fine,” he continued. “Training sessions are different to my old club, but I think this is my way of playing football, so I like it. It’s easy to play here."
Alongside Stegen, 18-year-old Alan Halilovic made his first team debut too, and was perhaps was the best player on show for the team in the first half.
