In a repeat of last year’s epic clash, Bayern Munich travelled to the Emirates in the last 16 of the UEFA Champions League, while Atletico Madrid played AC Milan.
Arsenal 0 – 2 Bayern Munich
An ideal game to follow up the high profile fixture between Barcelona and Manchester City last night. The Germans entered the game favorites, and certainly lived up to the hype. The Gunners had a great chance to go ahead in the opening exchanges through a deserved penalty, but Mesut Ozil fluffed his lines. Tables turned when Wojciech Szczesny was sent off for a tacke on Arjen Robben, and conceded a penalty. However, David Alaba failed to convert the spot kick to keep it 0-0 at half time. Toni Kroos broke the stalemate, with a wonder strike early in the second half. The Bavarians dominated the game there-on, and got a late second goal to put the game to bed.
The Spanish outfit has been touted to go a long way in this year’s tournament, and they did not disappoint. AC Milan’s dreadful form continues, as they slumped to yet another home defeat. Diego Costa scored in the 83rd minute to give Atletico Madrid a crucial away goal going into the second leg of the tie.
