During his pre-match press-conference ahead of Manchester United’s match with Leicester City this weekend, manager Louis van Gaal has admitted that a move for Cristiano Ronaldo is somewhat the club would be interested in, however, insists that it is highly unlikely that Real Madrid will sell him.
“It’s always a discussion in the papers. I don’t think the media will buy Ronaldo,” said Van Gaal. “When it is possible, it is what I have always said with Falcao, players like Ronaldo give a lot extra to selection, to the team, but I don't think Real Madrid will sell him.”
"It is possible,” he added. “That's what I have said with Falcao. Players like Ronaldo give a lot of extra to a team, but I don't think Real Madrid shall sell him."
Cristiano Ronaldo, 29, has been constantly linked with a move away from the Santiago Bernabeu over growing tension inside the club, and Chelsea having already ruled out their interest, Manchester United looks like the only possible destination for the Portuguese in the Premier League.
"I love Manchester and you never know in football. Of course I'm happy at Real Madrid; it's my home, it's my club, but United treated me unbelievably, so you never know," Ronaldo had told MUTV earlier in the pre-season. "I am still in contact with some people there because I had a good relationship with everybody - it was like my second family."
