It would have been made easier with him (Bale). With a player of his dimension, his qualities but, in the end, we were in a position where we had to think if we kept him what would be the consequences of our acts and how difficult it would have been to bring the player back to a level of motivation to work for us.”

Andre Villas-Boas when asked about Denmark international Christian Eriksen, said: “What we do in the transfer market is with the expectancy of these players becoming world stars and I think what happened with Christian is a bit like that happened with like Wesley Sneijder and Rafael van der Vaart when they were at Ajax. They reach a moment in their career where they become extremely important for their team and the club who goes and gets them does a great transfer move. We expect great things of Christian Eriksen. So, at the moment, we would like to develop him into becoming that type of important player for us as well.”
