After Phil Bardsley’s knockout blow on Wayne Rooney was plastered all across the front pages of British newspapers, the Manchester United striker came in for some criticism from all quarters. The main point being; this was not the sort of risky behaviour expected of a professional footballer earning hundreds of thousands of pounds a week.
But after the 3-0 win against Tottenham at Old Trafford, Rooney shut up his critics with a ‘knockout blow’ goal celebration after scoring his 11th EPL goal of the season. And after the match, he was asked by the media on what he thought about the whole fiasco.
He was clearly upset that a video filmed privately of him and his friends ‘joking around’ at his residence was leaked to the media. But he was quick to point out that it didn’t affect him with the three points against Tottenham as proof of his commitment to the club.
Manager Louis van Gaal was also critical of the media and termed it ‘ridiculous’ that he even had to respond to questions on the matter.
