Just when the thought of Xabi Alonso’s coolness starts to find a corner at the back of your mind, he finds something extraordinary to do and bring himself right at the fore of all football fans’ thoughts. This time, Bayern themselves have released a video of the midfielder scoring a superb curler from behind the goal.
The Bayern players are seen in the video just entering the pitch for training ahead of the Bayern v Schalke game at the weekend. As Philipp Lahm runs past him, the former Real Madrid man is seen holding the ball in his hand and slightly hopping, near the corner flag.
Once Lahm has walked past, he nonchalantly drops the ball and with the outside of his left foot curls the ball into the net. A feat most would struggle to achieve with their favoured foot.
Alonso then proceeds to run onto the pitch, barely even glancing back to see if the ball made it into the net, if that isn’t the epitome of cool, what is?
Here’s that video:
Over the weekend, the Spaniard helped his team to a 3-1 beating of Schalke as he has done so often since he moved to Germany from Real Madrid. The former Liverpool player has cemented his place in Pep Guardiola’s side and doesn’t seem like he’s losing any of his abilities with age.
Bayern Munich have been in imperious form this season opening up an early 8 point gap between themselves and second-placed Borussia Dortmund. However, it seems like they do this every season without results in the Champions League, but once again they are favourites to go all the way. It should be a tasty journey to watch.
