Teaming up with Australian poet Les Murray, Melbourne-based music band Vaudeville Smash for a new single title “Zinedine Zidane’, a rap-song on the retired World Cup winning playmaker for a World Cup Ad for the Australian Broadcaster SBS.
“I was in a rock band for six years in the ‘60s and ‘70s but we never had a hit,” Murray told Faster Louder. “So this could be my big break! I never thought I would have to say those names to a rhythm. Luckily my former rock musician days have given me a sense of timing.”

“It was our dream to work with Les,” Vaudeville Smash singer Marc Lucchesi admitted. “Every Sunday, my brothers (drummer Dan and bass player Luca) and I would watch Italian football on TV with our dad – hosted by Les Murray. I don’t usually get star struck, but when Les walked into the studio, I couldn’t believe it.”
“We love Zidane but, ultimately, the song is a celebration of football,” he added.
The song was released at the Evelyn Hotel in Melbourne on Saturday, May 31 ahead of the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil.
