Racism in the world of Football is a well known problem and it is not only restricted to Europe. The fight against racism has been more widespread in last couple of seasons, and the past few days have seen something of a fight back in the right direction.
Last month, Kevin Prince Boateng got the world to sit up and notice when he stormed off the pitch in an AC Milan friendly match after Pro Patria ultras racially abused him.
Now in a similar incident, a Brazilian court has also taken a stand against racism by delivering a serious sentence of one year imprisonment against Udinese defender Danilo.
Danilo, 28, was on trial in Brazil in 2010. Back then he played for Palmeiras, and was caught spitting in the face of opposition player Manoel and calling him “macaco” – a monkey – by television cameras.
Danilo has played 16 times for Udinese this season, scoring two goals.
