Vietnam host Indonesia at the Việt Trì Stadium on Sunday in the 2024 ASEAN Championship, looking to make it two wins from two. Ranked 116th in the world, the Golden Star Warriors began their campaign with a 4-1 drubbing of Laos.

Following a cagey first half, they ran riot in Vientiane, courtesy of goals from Nguyen Hai Long, Nguyen Tien Linh, Nguyen Van Toan and Nguyen Van Vi.

Bounphachan Bounkong pulled one back for Laos in stoppage time from the penalty spot, but it was too little, too late. Kim Sang-sik's side are second in the Group B table at the ASEAN Championship, behind only Indonesia, who have played a game more.

The Garuda Team beat Myanmar in their opener thanks to an own goal from Zin Nyi Nyi Aung in the 76th minute. But on matchday two, they were pegged back to a 3-3 draw with Laos.

Interestingly, they fought back twice in the game before going in front, only to relinquish their lead just five minutes later. Shin Tae-yong's side can retain their place at the top of the table with a draw, while a defeat could see Vietnam leapfrog them into first place.

There have been 30 clashes between the sides in the past, with Indonesia winning 11 times in the fixture and losing on eight occasions.
The Garuda Team have also won the three most recent encounters with the Golden Star Warriors, keeping clean sheets in all of them: a 1-0 win in January 2024 (AFC Asian Cup), a 1-0 victory in March 2024 (FIFA World Cup qualifiers), and a 3-0 win in March 2024 (FIFA World Cup qualifiers).
The Golden Star Warriors have won their last four games in a row, although their previous three before the Laos thrashing were a troika of hybrid friendlies.
