The Hague, Dec 8 (IANS) Vitesse maintained the lead in the Dutch Eredivisie after crushing struggling PSV 6-2 in Eindhoven.
Having failed to win for six league matches, the pressure was on the home-team and coach Phillip Cocu Saturday. PSV played well in the first half, but the first chance for Vitesse resulted in a goal, reports Xinhua.
Lucas Piazon scored in the 38th minute. But with a shot from outside the penalty box, Memphis Depay equalised just before half-time.
In the second half Mike Havenaar, who should have received a red card for a tackle on Stijn Schaars in the first half, and Kelvin Leerdam gave Vitesse a 3-1 lead, with PSV pulling one back through Karim Rekik six minutes from time.
In the final stages of the match things got worse for PSV, with Davy Propper scoring twice and Patrick van Aanholt also adding to the 6-2 victory.
“Our task becomes increasingly difficult,” PSV coach Cocu said.
“For everyone, this is difficult, also for myself. Yet, I do not give up. I’m a man of the club and someone who loves the club.”
After sixteen match rounds, Vitesse still lead the Eredivisie with 33 points, followed by Ajax (31) and FC Twente (30).
