Watford skipper Troy Deeney feels that the Hornets should be given more credit than others are giving at the moment after defeating Manchester United on Sunday. Most of the media attention has gone to Manchester United and Jose Mourinho after the Red Devils crashed for the third time in the space of a week.
The Hornets recorded their first win over United in 30 years as Walter Mazzari’s men recorded a memorable 3-1 thanks to goals from Etienne Capoue, Juan Camil Zuniga and the captain himself. Deeney has seen Watford go through some tough games to start with this campaign with the previous two home games ending up in defeat to Chelsea and Arsenal.
"We have had the toughest start of any club. To come out with seven points is massive for a club like us,” quipped the Englishman after the victory.
The striker, in fact, wasn’t taken aback by the level of their performance in the the game and sounded cheerful after coming out on the winning side after their battle against the big spending Manchester United.
"I am not surprised by how we played. We should take a bit more credit, we pressed well, condensed the space and were tough in the tackle”, said Deeney. “We need to be against teams like Manchester United who have high quality players and spend a lot of money.
"We have some really good quality players and men in there, which is the hardest part, I thought we were the better side and had a lot of chances, even when they scored we showed what we are made of and came again.”

This result would also be a pleasing one for Watford’s new manager Walter Mazzari, who has had a public feud with Mourinho during the Portuguese’s time at Italy with Inter Mian when the Manchester United manager had called him a “donkey: “They (the fans) told me it was 30 years since Watford beat Manchester United so this win gives us a lot of satisfaction,” Mazzarri said.
Mazzari, however, said that those things were part of the past and he doesn’t pay much heed to it. The Italian in fact went on to claim that he had chatted with Mourinho for forty minutes before the game and would be open to go out for dinner with him as well.
Watford had last beaten their Sunday night opponents in 1986 when they were under Graham Taylor and a goal from Iwan Roberts was enough to seal the deal. Watford’s win helped climb up to ninth position in table whilst Manchester United’s third loss in as many games have brought them down to seventh.
