Watford and Oxford United get round 15 of the EFL Championship underway when they lock horns at Vicarage Road on Friday. This will be the first meeting between the two sides since September 2020, when the Hornets picked up a penalty-shootout victory in their EFL Cup second-round clash.
Watford were denied a third victory on the spin for the first time since August as they fell to a 1-0 loss against Swansea City at the Swansea.com Stadium on Tuesday.
Before that, the Hornets snapped their two-game losing run with a 1-0 victory over Blackburn Rovers on October 26, one week before thrashing Sheffield Wednesday 6-2 at the Hillsborough Stadium.
Watford have picked up 22 points from their 14 EFL Championship matches to sit sixth in the standings, level on points with fifth-placed Millwall and eight points off first-placed Sunderland.
Elsewhere, Dutch defender Hidde ter Avest grabbed the headlines for Oxford United as his 55th-minute strike was enough to hand them a 1-0 victory over Hull City last time out.
This was a much-needed result for Des Buckingham’s men, who had failed to win their previous eight matches, losing three and claiming five draws since the third week of September.
Oxford United, who have now won four of their 14 Championship games, sit 16th in the table with 17 points, but could move into ninth place with a win this weekend.
