Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney has claimed the 3-0 defeat to Liverpool is one of the worst days he’s experienced in football.
Steven Gerrard scored two penalties and missed a third, while Luis Suarez closed to scoring with a late goal to send Liverpool 14 points clear of their rivals to edge closer to the top of the Premier League.
The defeat also means that United’s hopes of a top four finish are slim after another damaging defeat.
David Moyes, meanwhile, insisted that it was difficult to pinpoint where exactly it went wrong for United but bemoaned that it was a tough day for the Premier League champions.
“It’s hard to assess the game which was littered with penalty kicks and decisions, some were right and some were wrong,” he told Sky Sports.
“It was a tough day for us. At half-time, we were 1-0 down to a penalty kick, but I didn’t think there was a lot in it. But to give away one 20 seconds into the second half made it a real uphill climb after that.”
