Manchester United’s Wayne Rooney is a versatile forward who is capable of playing in a much deeper role than what you would expect from your generic attacker. However, his goalscoring record proves him to be one of most prolific attackers English football had ever seen.
The 28-year-old is edging ever closer to two major goalscoring records for both club and country, but how far is he from breaking it?
Rooney is 31 goals shy of breaking the all-time record set by Bobby Charlton for scoring the highest goals for Manchester United, a record that has stood for more than 40 years now.

"I watched Michael Owen as a boy growing up, so to go above him in the goalscoring charts [with England] is great,” said Rooney after overtaking Michael Owen as the country’s fourth highest goal scorer.
“I'd be a fool if I didn't look at Sir Bobby's record and feel capable of passing him. It's in my sights. Both records [for United and England] have stood for a long time, and a lot of players have attempted to break them. Now they're in touching distance. It's something I'd love to do. I feel I'm capable of doing it," he adds.
He is much closer to breaking Charlton’s record of 49 goals as he has found the net 41 times from his 97 appearances for the Three Lions.
