Wayne Rooney - End of an era or a new beginning?

Rohan

Reports in the English press yesterday mentioned that there could be an unexpected delay in the return of the “king”- Rooney, who was previously expected to be sidelined for one month, will now be available after two months for live action. This well test United’s attack for sure as for years Wayne has been a saviour for United. But Fergie’s new signings can provide that kind of treat for all Man United fans as Kagawa has been a very influential player for them in both the previous fixtures and Van Persie has also brought up his confidence with a goal against Fulham.

But the reports in the English media were more depressing yesterday, claiming that Man United is considering a move for their No. 10 as Fergie is not happy with the kind of attitude Rooney has developed in recent months. Rooney was spotted drinking and partying late with many female fans without his wife Colleen. He has also gained some weight and has become slow on the pitch in the recent encounters. Sir Alex Ferguson is concerned about the striker’s commitment, who is not looking as sharp on the field as he used to. He had a dull match against Everton and was left on the bench for Fulham as Sir Alex decided to introduce him later in the second half. Sir Alex has told him to buck up his ideas if wants to remain in United’s side.

A lesson to be learned

Sir Alex has always put club before player, as we saw Beckham, Nistelrooy, Heinze and many who got blinded by the luxury and stardom of football, part ways with United. But the case with Wayne Rooney is entirely different. He was the highest goalscorer for United last season and has been a ‘class’ in terms of assists and creating chances. To be honest, he is the only player whose presence filled the void left in the heart of million fans by Ronaldo‘s absence. And Sir Alex still believes that Rooney is the leader of United’s attack.

As far as his health and body conditions are concerned, it should be kept in mind that he will be under medical observance for more than 8 weeks regarding the nasty gash he got in his thigh. Doctors have said that his injury was far bad than it was first thought. The recovery process takes time and Rooney needs to be very patient. This setback will surely teach him an important lesson that – a player is nothing without his play. If he fails to recover, then all his fame will be swallowed by this failure.

This is the time when he can start from the beginning. He can rise again like a phoenix from his ashes, ready for his first flight in the open sky with the ambition to takeover the world in his eyes. After spending a decade playing football, he can once again achieve some more heights with his love and dedication to football. And whenever he’ll look back, he will find million of fans and one great manager saying – “WE BELIEVE IN YOU”.
